What is the Big Wild Walk?

The Big Wild Walk is The Wildlife Trusts' annual fundraising challenge!  

Walk 30km from 21st October and 3rd November and fundraise to protect the wildlife you love.

Whether you want to take on one big hike or take it at your own walking pace over the two weeks, the only competition is against yourself. And if you prefer to conquer step counts from the comfort of your living room, don’t worry because we’ll bring the wildlife to you!  

Whatever you do, you’ll also experience the benefits to health and wellbeing that comes from connecting with nature.

How to take part in Big Wild Walk

It was a really enjoyable challenge and a good incentive to get outside into the fresh air and countryside and get some exercise, as well as raising funds for a great cause.

Nothing beats a crisp autumnal walk with friends and family. So why not nominante them to join you as you complete Big Wild Walk! 

Invite three friends or family members with the hashtag #NominateForNature - let them know why you’re taking on your Big Wild Walk, how much wildlife means to you and how they can get involved too!

Share your journey on social media and celebrate each step you take—it all helps protect the wildlife we love. You can also join our Facebook group for daily encouragement from a welcoming community of fellow nature lovers!

How does taking part help wildlife?

Wildlife is disappearing at an alarming rate and the threat of climate catastrophe is a constant worry. The Wildlife Trusts are calling for at least 30% of our land and sea to be connected and protected for nature’s recovery by 2030. Funds raised from the Big Wild Walk will go directly towards helping us achieve this goal. From campaigning for protected areas at sea to allow our precious marine wildlife to recover, to working with landowners and community groups to create wildlife-friendly spaces, your donations help us to bring wildlife back across the UK and in the Isle of Man and Alderney.
