Award winning biro artist draws over 50 nature reserves for charity auction

Award winning artist, Cy Baker, has partnered with The Wildlife Trusts to auction original artworks of much-loved nature reserves.

An award-winning ballpoint pen artist is collaborating with The Wildlife Trusts to sketch his experiences at 50 nature reserves across the UK. Cy Baker, based in Hampshire, is producing a sketch for every reserve visited and 15 original artworks to auction in April.

Cy has visited 20 Wildlife Trusts across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland since April 2024. He is embracing the opportunity to depict impressive British landscapes and species in his latest works, which will be sold to help raise funds for nature’s recovery in the UK.

On his travels Cy visited The Wildlife Trust’s newest reserve – the Rothbury Estate in Northumberland. There he chose to focus on the wonderfully gnarled and wind-battered trees that cling to the Simonside hills, including one that had fallen in a recent storm but continued growing horizontally.

Cy says, “Focussing exclusively on British wildlife has been both a challenge and a huge privilege.

Despite so much nature loss in the UK, much remains, particularly on Wildlife Trust reserves.

I'm over the moon that I’m able to share that with people through my art and to help in some small way. All the pieces completed for this project only show the habitats and species that I have seen on my visits, so the artworks really are a reflection of what other people might see on a trip to these special places.”

Jo Richards, head of communications at The Wildlife Trusts, says:

“Cy’s ability to capture, with just a simple biro, the beauty and fragility of nature is why his work is so important – it reminds people why wildlife is worth protecting. Through this exciting collaboration, we’re merging creativity and conservation to inspire action and raise vital funds. It’s so heart-warming to see art and purpose come together for such an important cause.”

A one-off show and auction event will be held on the evening of Thursday 24th April 2025, at London Wildlife Trust’s Camley Street Natural Park in London.
