A once-in-a-generation opportunity

The Wildlife Trusts nationally and Northumberland Wildlife Trust have an opportunity to secure the future of the historic Rothbury Estate in Northumberland. But we need your help to raise £30 million by October 2026.

Stretching over 3,800 hectares, the Estate is a unique and special place. Its moorlands, grasslands and woodlands are home to rare wildlife like red squirrels and curlew. You can see the deep connection between people and this landscape, from ancient rock carvings to historic buildings and the remains of an iron age settlement.

If we don’t act now, we will lose the opportunity to safeguard this landscape, which has meant so much to people for thousands of years.

Let's make history together

You can help secure the future of this iconic place for people and nature.

You can make this vision a reality

Together, we can secure Rothbury Estate for people, for nature and for a wilder future. Your support will help preserve Rothbury’s unique heritage and create a future where people and nature flourish together in this remarkable landscape.

Thanks to generous support, including philanthropic loans, we have already purchased part of the Rothbury Estate, which includes the much-loved Simonside Hills.

We must now acquire the whole Estate, to preserve its rich heritage for future generations and avoid the land being broken up into multiple ownerships, which would make access for the public more difficult.

By securing the entire Estate and working with local farmers and communities, we will create a huge area for nature's recovery and put the Rothbury Estate at the heart of a 40-mile wildlife corridor across northern England.

We only have one chance to secure the future of the Estate. We must act now, to create a connected landscape which supports some of the country’s rarest wildlife to thrive.

All funds raised - including any funds raised over our target amount - will go towards nature’s recovery at the Rothbury Estate.

In the event we don’t raise enough funds to purchase the entire Estate or we are unable to complete the purchase for any reason, funds raised will go towards nature's recovery in the Simonside Hills and surrounding areas.
